I am pretty sure that most crafters are like me. 20 different projects on the go and none of them finished. Infact I still have an advent calendar that I started 15 years ago that is sitting in a cupboard wondering if it will ever see the light of day. The reason I was thrilled to be a Make It Coats Ambassador was firstly that I love crafts and secondly it gave me the push to finish a project.
Things went really well with the beginner's knitted cowl that I made. I loved using the over sized knitting needles and before I knew it had a lovely cowl, which has been keeping me cosy over the winter.
I had gained confidence and for my next project I wanted a challenge. I chose the Union Flag Cushion and was provided with some Red Heart yarn.
So I started my cushion. I did the back first which is striped. It was an easy to follow pattern and I was pleased with how well it was going. Then I started the front. As the saying goes if at first you don't succeed, try try again. Well I did. Twice. Then I decided I didn't even want a union flag cushion anymore and made a striped cushion instead.
Whilst I didn't succeed in making the cushion that I had set out to do, I did learn a lot about myself.
I am sure that if I had been using longer needles and had time in the day to knit then I could have completed the cushion as per the pattern. However, I have realised that I enjoy knitting in the evening whilst watching the TV. Therefore I like simple patterns. Not lots of counting and swapping of colours. Something to relax me, that doesn't take too much concentration. Middle man likes his new soft cushion and it matches his bedroom nicely.
How many unfinished projects do you have? Do you find you use knitting to relax?
