This was our first visit to the canaries with children, and we stayed at Costa Teguise in Lanzarote. As we were only there for a week we only booked one tour which was the short volcano tour. Whilst Thomson offered it at a premium, we chose the local Last MinuteTravel who did the same trip at less than half the cost. It was ideal with children as you we back at your hotel for lunch and before it got too hot.
You are taken to the volcanoes and shown some geothermal experiments. As a science teacher at heart I was in my element watching these and the boys enjoyed these too.
Next is a couch tour around the national park, taking in the scenery.
A camel Safari is then an optional extra. Costing 12 euro per camel it was certainly worth it. It is a rather bumpy ride downhill!
Last stop is a winery. Whilst it is interesting watching how they grow their grapes, the tasting didn't leave me wanting to buy a bottle.
Another must on Costa Teguise is snorkelling in Playa del Jabillo beach. We bought some inexpensive snorkels from a tourist shop and took the boys to this shallow cove. I have to admit that I was shocked at how many fish there were. I have been scuba diving and seen less. It was fantastic taking big man on his first snorkelling trip and seeing his excitement.
I also had the bright idea of hiring one of those massive bikes/pedal car things that seats all 5 of us. Let's just say the coast is hilly and 33C is hot when cycling! We had lots of fun in the sun to end the summer holidays. Now back home with a mountain of washing and a broken tumble dryer it just isn't the same. Best start looking into next years trip instead. Have you been to Lanzarote? What did you enjoy doing the most?
