Learning on Holiday

Holidays with children are not a time when you can sit back and relax. I don't think that relax is in my boys dictionary. At first this upset me a little, but now I have come to embrace the new opportunities that holidays bring. When I saw that Britmums were teaming up with Visit Wales and Rare Hideaways  for the chance to win a break to Wales, I had to take part. Wales holds many special memories for me. I lived in Wales for 5 years and met my husband there. We try to go back as often as we can, but are guilty of mainly visiting the place we fell in love - Swansea.

Swansea may not seem the immediate holiday destination, but it has so much to offer rain or shine. Last year we visited for a couple of days and with it came so many learning opportunities for the boys. First up we went to the Gower and had a go at body boarding. I can't wait until the boys are bigger and I can enroll them in surf school. I had a go surfing at Rhossilli before big man came along. We chose the half a day slot and we were shattered. I can confirm that I am no Patrick Swayze or Keanu Reeves on a surf board.

At Langland we went around the rock-pools, discovering seaweed and anenomes. Big man had his identification chart and was in his element poking around with a stick.

A short drive away you can explore the caves at the national showcase centre. Infact big man proved he had been to a cave at school the other day by writing that caves are dark and wet even though they have a roof!

So holidays these days aren't as relaxing as they used to be, but they are filled with leaning as well as lots of fun! You can follow Visit Wales on twitter and on Facebook

This post is an entry for the Visit Wales #Wales4Kids Famiy Holiday Challenge. Wales is the perfect place for a fun-filled family break.

  1. Holidays are certainly different now we have a toddler. Fun but different! We love going to Wales too, as does our son, although go to the north to climb mountains and explore castles.

I am a big fan of Swansea and the Gower. Looks like your children are adventurers. Love rock-pooling. Commenting for myself and on behalf of BritMums and thanking you for taking part. @kateonthinice

  3. I used to go to the Gower all the time when I was younger and in my teens. It was the first place I swam in the sea in the UK, it was a tad cold!! I'll have to keep it in mind for a nice visit in the summer as it's not too far from Cardiff

Can't beat a good active outdoor style holiday for the kids to have fun and learn so much at the same time

  11. Cute baby girl giveaway! Looks like a fun family time on holiday! Do that a lot before they are teenagers! Teenagers avoid family get togethers and have girlfriends....

I love Swansea! We only ever have staycations but whenever we do we always learn so much too. Sounds like you had a fabulous time.
